Frequently asked questions
Questions before you upload your photo.
The first preview is free, with a watermark and no card. After that, the starter pack costs US$2.99. The rest is below, by topic.
The service
How does the restoration work?
You upload the photo in your browser, with nothing to install. The AI treats tears, stains, mold and fading and returns a watermarked preview so you can compare it with the original. Like it? Any purchase removes the watermark from that photo, and the coins in your pack restore the next ones.
See the step-by-step guideHow long does it take?
It varies with the photo and how busy the service is. You follow the progress on screen.
How can I restore badly damaged old photos?
Photograph or scan the photo in good light and upload it to RestauraAI. The AI treats tears, stains, mold and fading based on what's still visible; where the image was lost, it rebuilds by interpretation, and the less of a face is left, the less faithful it can be. Check the preview before you buy.
See how to restore badly damaged photosWhich kinds of damage does the AI treat?
Tears, creases, stains (water, coffee, mold), scratches, yellowing, fading and loss of sharpness. The paper original does not change: the work is done on the digital copy.
Can the AI colorize black-and-white photos?
Yes. It picks natural colors consistent with the period, based on the light and the elements in the photo. It is an interpretation: there is no way to know the exact colors of a black-and-white photo.

The AI is instructed to keep each person’s features. Where the photo lost information, it fills in by interpretation, which is why you check faces and details in the preview before you pay.
How do I restore old photos with my phone?
In your phone's browser, with no app to install: photograph the old photo in good light and without glare, upload it to RestauraAI and download the result on the same phone. It also works on a computer.

Certificates, diplomas and letters go through their own process and use 1 coin. The model can rewrite letters and numbers: check names, dates and numbers in the preview before you use the result.

How much does it cost to restore an old photo?
The first preview is free, with a watermark. Any purchase removes the watermark from that photo. Each new photo uses 1 coin in 2K and 2 coins in 4K. The starter pack costs US$2.99 and brings 1 coin. In bigger packs, a photo costs as little as US$0.55. All packs are on the Pricing page.
See packs and pricingCan I try it before paying?
Yes. Create your account, upload the photo and see the watermarked preview, no card needed.
See how to try it freeWhat is the difference between 2K and 4K?
4K has twice the width and height of 2K (about 2048 and 4096 pixels on the longer side). 2K looks great on a phone and for sharing; 4K is for printing and enlarging. Any purchase unlocks 4K.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Debit or credit card.
Do I need a subscription?
No. Coins come in one-time packs, and coins bought in a pack don’t expire. The monthly plan is optional, for people who restore often, and can be canceled in your settings.
What if I don’t like the result?
You see the preview before you buy. If the generation fails, the coin goes back to your balance. Refund requests follow the Terms: within 30 days of purchase, reviewed case by case; coins already used are not refundable.
Privacy
What happens to my photo afterwards?
It appears in your account’s gallery, protected by your login. Download the file to keep your own copy: the gallery is not a backup. Data use and retention are covered in the Privacy Policy.
Is it safe to upload a family photo?
The image travels over an HTTPS connection and goes to your account’s gallery, behind your login. How data is handled, and the rights you have under Brazil’s LGPD, are in the Privacy Policy.
Do you share photos with third parties?
To create the result, the image is processed by AI providers hired for that; the rules are in the Privacy Policy. Under the Terms of Use, you keep the rights to the images you upload and the restored versions.
Do you use my photos to train AI?
The Privacy Policy states that RestauraAI does not use your images to train AI models. To create the result, the image is processed by AI providers hired for that.
Results and files
Does the photo come with a watermark?
The preview has a watermark. After your first purchase, the results available in your gallery can be viewed and downloaded without it.
Which formats can I upload?
JPG, PNG, WEBP and HEIC (iPhone), up to 25 MB per photo. If your photo is RAW, export it to JPG first. Prefer the original file over the one received on WhatsApp, which compresses the image and drops detail.
Does it work with scanned photos and photos of photos?
It works with both. Scan at a good resolution, or photograph the print head-on, in good light and without glare. The AI works from what appears in the image.
Can I restore several photos at once?
Yes. Upload several photos at once, with any balance: each 2K photo uses 1 coin and each 4K photo uses 2 coins. The preparation screen shows how many fit in your balance.
